Acquistions Serials Task Group

Goal 1. Advise and make recommendations to the USMAI Council of Library Directors on requests and priorities relating to acquisitions and serials functionality in the consortial environment.

Strategy a.: Provide CLD with a brief overview of the issues related to legacy serials records, possible solutions, and some recommendations based on what will be practical, cost-effective, and beneficial for user for the USMAI.

Strategy b.: Provide CLD with an overview of problems with Aleph Acquisition/Serials reporting of Collection Management data and recommendations of reports to develop that will be practical, cost-effective, and beneficial to the effective management of USMAI collections.

Goal 2. Reviewing requests submitted by campuses; recommending priorities related to EDI activities and development with vendors.

Strategy a. Provide CLD with an overview of old unresolved EDI requests and Aleph Acquisitions/Serials Rx's and recommendations on which should be completed and which should be dropped.

Goal 3. Periodically updating the COI on Serials and Acquisitions on related issues

Strategy a.: Routinely provide consistent standardized Aleph training to new USMAI Acquisitions/Serials staff.


Objectives Responsibility Time-line
Survey campuses on training needs, develop outline of training, and develop outlines of training to be given in each area. Offer basic Aleph training for new Acquisitions and Serials staff twice a year. ASTG In progress to be completed by July.


Strategy b.: Provide annual forum to include advanced aleph serials training and to share information about campus-specific procedures and data, database clean-up projects, and reports.
