MARCIVE Change Record Loader <rev. 20050216>

I. General Introduction to Processing

Initially, this loader will process the backlog of MARCIVE change record files (16 months worth as of 03/04) then will be used to load, on a monthly basis, each month's current MARCIVE change record files. Currently, only monographic records and electronic-only serial records are loaded.

This loader will match against 035 ocm number and always overlay existing record. No holdings/items will be generated for any depository institution with one exception: if the incoming record includes 074(online) and no online holdings for the same location already exists, then the loader will create one online HOLding and one ITM record for the institutions listed in the bibliographic record's 049s. Matches on multiple records and records that load new will be reported out for manual remedy. No XPT flags will be set to trigger holdings setting on OCLC.

II. Bibliographic Record Processing

1. Record matching Rules
   1. OCLC numbers in tag 001 of incoming records are moved to tag 035 with blank indicators.
   2. Then incoming tag 035 is matched to tag 035 with blank indicators on existing record
   3. If there is no match to the OCLC number, the record is new and loaded as a unique record.
   4. If there is a match to the OCLC number, proceed to next step for Overlay Rules.
   
   
2. Overlay Rules

   On match of ocm number in single bib, always overlay. On match of ocm number in multiple bibs, report out incoming record and system numbers of existing records.
   NOTE: The complete input file(s) is dumped into mai02 for reprocessing records rejected by Ongoing Loader in mai01.

3. Tag Protection – Apply regular with the addition of tag 049.

5. MeSH Subject Headings Handling - Apply regular
6. Reordering of Tags - Apply regular
7. XPT flag - NA

III. Indexing - Apply regular

IV. HOLdings, Summary holdings, and Item Record Creation If the incoming record includes one or more 074 tag with "(online)", the loader will create one online HOLding and one Item record for the institutions listed in the record's 049s, unless online HOLdings for the same locations already exist. Defaults are:

Use call number type "3" and derive call number from last 086 tag in bib. Generate no other default holdings or items.
