Marcive Full New Online-Only Record Loader (20061030)

1. General Introduction to Processing
   
   ITD retrieves FTP files monthly from Marcive. Currently only monographic records and online-only records are loaded. The Marcive full new monograph load includes titles available in both online and tangible formats for profiled libraries and is detailed separately.
   
   The online-only loader loads Marcive full online-only bibliographic records for government documents to MAI01 and MAI02 (staging database). These records are for serials and monographs that are available only online. For designated USMAI institutions, it also generates default holdings and items for online resources. Three institutions (HS, MS & ML) have HOLdings generated for only those titles for which they are profiled, as represented by bib 049s (MDU, MSU & LUM), whereas another eleven institutions (CE, CP, ES, SU, SM, UB, BC, UC, FS, TU & BL) , have holdings/items generated for all online-only titles loaded. The loader sets XPT flags in all records to drive holdings to WorldCat per chart in section IV of this specification.
   
   
2. Bibliographic Record Processing
   
   OCLC number in tag 001 will be transferred to tag 035 with blank indicators. Loader will add tag 950 $a MARCIVE FULL and timestamp to records loaded, whether new or overlay.
   
   For all records loaded, new or overlay, loader will add a single tag XPT $a Y $b <OCLC institutional code> per institution based on HOLDings linked to record and chart given in section IV of this specification.
