Topic 1: April meeting minutes

Minutes of the April 20, 2006 CLD meeting were approved by acclamation.

Topic 2: AskUsNow! presentation

Joan Stahl, branch manager of the Art Library at UMCP, and Joe Thompson, of Baltimore County Public Library and manager of the Maryland AskUsNow! service, joined CLD to share information about the chat reference service. Stahl and Thompson are working to further develop an academic queue within the Maryland AskUsNow! chat service and are in the process of speaking with relevant academic groups.

Joe Thompson distributed handouts describing the service, including the service schedule. UMCP is providing chat service solely through the AskUsNow service and is moving to using QuestionPoint for coordinating email reference, as well. AskUsNow! is part of the national QuestionPoint 24/7 Reference network. Support for the service comes from DLDS, so there is no charge to participating libraries.

Topic 3: Development Plan and FY '07 Budget

Ruschoff introduced a list of USMAI Projects under consideration as part of a revised development plan. Items that are campus-specific or require additional clarification are not yet on the list. Directors requested information about the timing of the projects and a comparison with previous timelines.

CLD discussed at some length the Aleph version 17 and 18 upgrades. CLD will put the topic on the June agenda and plan to make a decision at that meeting about how to proceed with implementation of versions 17 and 18. Before the next meeting, ITD will send CLD information about features and benefits of version 17. ITD staff will have the opportunity to learn more about upgrading to new versions at ELUNA.

CLD Exec Council will meet sometime before the June 15th CLD meeting to discuss the new projects list and plan how to approach items listed as being under CLD purview.

Ruschoff shared a draft structure for budget reports for FY2007. Send Ruschoff any questions.

Ruschoff introduced Jamie Bush, who is now interim Aleph manager.

Topic 4: ITD Report

See ITD Status report for the last month at http://usmai.umd.edu/statusrep/. ITD hosted a NISO webinar about the Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI). Day shared a campus database commitment spreadsheet with figures that will correspond to the sample budget report that campuses receive. CLD gave positive feedback about these figures and Day will add to them to the final spreadsheets that will be sent to campuses shortly.

Phillips shared a portion of a presentation ITD programmer Dave Kennedy made about Shibboleth at the USM ITCC. Spicer expressed that USM is very appreciative of the work the libraries are doing with Shibboleth. Phillips highlighted other portions of the status report, including progress on ILLiad and authorities, ID changes at UMCP and UMUC, and the recent reports forum.
