Day gave an overview of Google Scholar's content and the options available to campuses who wish to participate. Campuses may ask ITD to set up Find It links for their users in Google Scholar or add Google Scholar as a database in Research Port. Day will send to Campus Contacts and CLD a list of information ITD needs to set up Google Scholar.
Wilson reviewed the latest version of the plan (see email of 10/11/05). Individual campuses may revise priorities by substituting an existing item with a new one or one that's currently lower on the plan. ITD will still need to consider resources needed by the new item to fit it in the schedule. In the future, ITD proposes that campuses only numerically rank the top five items, and group remaining priorities in high, medium and low categories. Next year's process of priority-setting will begin earlier in February so that the plan can be approved before the beginning of the plan.
CLD approved the USMAI Development plan by acclamation.
Lea Messman has worked with the Transition Team on a draft procedures manual for USMAI, codifying some of CLD's procedures and decisions.
Gresehover reviewed the RSTG's draft of USMAI Circulation agreements. See draft agreement and comments from COI (emailed by Gontrum 10/19/2005). CLD provided RSTG comments on the Circulation Core Agreements and Procedures.
CLD committed to addressing issues remaining in RSTG's list of pending "parking lot" issues.
CLD approved the agreements and procedures in principle and RSTG will incorporate CLD feedback into the final document.
The ILLiad Users Group will meet Nov. 2 and is forming a reflector to communicate about ILLiad issues. The ILLiad subgroup of RSTG has worked with ITD to create a consortial ILLiad implementation plan. The plan calls for ILLiad to be in production by March 2006 and Odyssey in summer 2006. RSTG will post the implementation plan on the USMAI website.
Exec group asked subgroup of RSTG to survey campuses about their e-reserves activities and contacts for each of those campuses. The group should plan to complete the survey before January 2006.
Day presented the ERM Task Group's recommendation (see email of 10/14/05) of how to proceed with selection of an ERM system. The group is recommending Ex Libris's Verde system. ITD is meeting with College Park Procurement to confirm that no RFP is necessary to proceed.
CLD approved the purchase of Verde.
CLD approved that the Authorities Task Group end date be extended to the end of June, 2006.
See the current status report posted at http://usmai.umd.edu/statusrep/100105.html. In the future, the status report will be posted by the 5th of each month.
Maryland Digital Library's Vendor Day is scheduled for November 7 at Capitol College, and interested staff are invited to attend to learn about new databases.
See also CLD Exec meeting minutes from 9/22/05. Ex Libris presented their PDQ system, which is remarkably similar to USMAI's PPH service. It works in a multi-ADM environment. Ex Libris described a new product, Primo, which would be an alternative interface for the catalog, but would also present information from Digitool and OAI resources, and eventually, MetaLib.
ICAU is being reformed as IGELU, International Group of Ex Libris Users. Day was appointed to its steering group of to plan next year's conference.
Lowry: Maryland Digital Library is in the MHEC budget for $500,000, along with Maryland Online. Discussions are proceeding about working with the state to develop an academic queue within the Maryland Ask Us Now digital reference service.
College Park is moving volumes from Moravia to APL, the Hopkins facility. Lowry and the College Park provost met with USM staff to discuss making funds for construction of a second storage facility available earlier than currently budgeted by the State.
Orr: UMUC has openings for several public services and reference positions.
Bahr: CALD is planning an April meeting. The speaker will be Irene Padilla. SLRC is engaging in a marketing plan (see handout distributed by Bahr). Open meetings will be held on several dates in October.
