Present: B. Day (ITD), B. Gontrum (UMLL, recording), K. Kelley (UMUC), C. Lowry (UM), J. Phillips (ITD), C. Rabinowitz (SMCM), C. Ruschoff (UM/ITD), M.J. Tooey (HSHSL), L. Wilt (UMBC)
Ruschoff presented a revised budget for FY 07. Suggestions for changes were made and a new version will be presented at the June 15th CLD meeting. A specific amount should be included for contingencies as was decided during the most recent budget process. Wilt will follow up to determine the appropriate amount.
Exec discussed goals for each of the vacant ITD positions and the status of the recruitment process. Positions that are currently in the recruitment phase and will be advertised over the summer include: 1) Systems librarian; 2) E-content librarian; and 3) Aleph programmer. Two of these are library faculty positions. Phillips and Day expressed a need for two additional positions, a second Aleph programmer and a second E-content librarian. Job descriptions have yet to be developed for these two positions. The sense of the group was that recruitment for all positions should be aggressively pursued. Rabinowitz asked if there could be participation in the searches by consortium members other than College Park. There was agreement that this should be pursued, either by giving USMAI the option of having one person on the search committees or by inviting USMAI representatives to an open session with the candidates. Other possibilities for staffing that ITD should consider are greater use of graduate assistants from the computer science school and possible outsourcing of projects to Ex Libris.
Phillips distributed a list of completed projects.
Exec discussed the Aleph version 17 and 18 upgrades and will recommend to CLD a proposal to implement both versions together in summer 2007. This will include a move to PDQ, the new Ex Libris product for intercampus borrowing. Several other Ex Libris sites are planning similar upgrades. Strong sentiment was expressed at the ELUNA meeting that Ex Libris should develop ways to facilitate a combined upgrade.
Day proposed a staged implementation of Verde. Under this proposal, initial work will be done on the consortial instance of Verde (supporting all of MDL). In addition, one individual campus will implement their instance of Verde and serve as a pilot for future implementations. UMBC has volunteered to be the pilot library. It was suggested that she discuss the proposal with the Verde group prior to the upcoming CLD meeting.
Exec discussed at length the content and format of the USMAI Projects list that had been distributed at the last CLD meeting. While progress was made, additional discussion time is needed. The July 20th meeting will be an Exec meeting in College Park from 9 - 3, including a working lunch, for the purpose of reviewing the projects list and discussing prioritization.
