Committee Housekeeping
The group examined the charge and saw no need to change anything. We identified corrections that needed to be made to our newly created (and at the moment very sketchy) web site. We discussed our membership briefly and decided that since it was very heavily dependent on membership on other USMAI groups, and since not every group had firmly set service terms, we would not set cycling off dates for ECCTG at this time. The group proposed that we consider adding at-large members as needed for special projects or very specific tasks. Lowe agreed to serve as group’s co-chair, with proposal that Angie Ohler serve as the other co-chair.
E-Book Issues by Task Group
Gilbert: ERM group worked on creating a tool that would display licensing information to users and public services staff from the SFX menu. They shared it in early February with COI All and demoed it to CLD last April. In the process of feedback, some concerns were expressed about the tool and further conversations need to occur. The ERM TG will be working with UMCP on determining how data population of consortial licenses will occur. Campuses will be able to enter data about their local licenses.
Lowe: ECTG has been looking at e-book sets, both consortially shared ones like NetLibrary and individually purchased. They realize that they need to consider cataloging aspects too. They are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of having oclc-sourced records with accurate holdings, especially in the WCL environment.
Henry: in terms of e-books, UITG is primarily concerned with user access to titles and licensing information. They gave feedback to ERM group on the newly developed tool. They are also interested in display issues, public notes, and usability studies.
Douglas: ASTG hasn’t talked about e-book issues yet.
Davis: RSTG hasn’t discussed e-book issues either. They are currently involved with consortial ILL issues and PPH.
Ruth: CPC is concerned with record load issues for e-book sets, including their source; to that effect they created documentation to help requesters address pertinent issues and questions during the process of selecting and acquiring the titles. CPC is also looking at single record vs. separate record approach in cataloging of e-books with equivalent content.
Wrubel is involved with SFX enabling of e-titles and Metalib issues. She deals with e-book representation in SFX, requesting ISBNs to be added to Knowledge Base, existence of the same title on multiple platforms and resolving of access for titles in multiple volumes.
