Linking Options |
Examples |
Notes |
| E-Book is in SFX KB (assuming that SFX gets correct ISBN out of record) |
SFX will show link to that target in menu |
netLibrary, Wiley, Gale Virtual Reference Library, many others |
Ideal linking. Links will appear only when the campus has access to that book. Links will appear when the user is coming from non-catalog sources. |
| E-book is not in SFX KB |
If the set of 856/956 URLs have an identifiable, unique URL string, SFX can display the link in the menu for a particular campus. |
NetLibrary consortial books; SourceOECD books for CP (sys=003453235) |
Good for: collections that are owned by only one campus, OR owned by multiple campuses which have access to the same set of books.
Caveats: URL must be the same for all owning campuses. Removing the URL removes access.
|
| |
If the 856/956 has a $7 with a campus code, SFX can show the URL in the SFX menu for that campus only. |
See UMBC examples in alephtest (sys=002554788) |
Good for: selective e-book collections that more than one campus has access to.
Caveats: Removing the URL removes access.

Create a local object for the book and add a portfolio for the target. Put SFX object ID in MARC record where SFX can get it. |
|
Need to investigate whether campuses have unique local object IDs. Access would only work for the campus which has the object in their KB. If multiple campuses have access, they would need to have the same object ID. Not sure if this is possible. Ideally, local objects would be temporary until added to SFX KB.
|
| E-book is in SFX KB, but under a different ISBN/e-ISBN than what is in the catalog record. |
Getting the SFX object ID into the record would provide linking. Is there some way to find all possible ISBNs and check SFX? |

How would match be established? |
