Linda Seguin made one revision to August minutes, and they were approved
Report on conference call to EBSCO (Vikor, Wrubel)
- Marlene Vikor, Laura Wrubel and Betty Day talked to EBSCO about their MARC record service, which is apparently closely tied to their A-Z list
- EBSCO A-Z list basically same model as Serial Solutions
- From the knowledge base (kb), can do the following:
- MARC records come from kb, but only CONSER records
- Can’t provide any records if not in kb
- Does offer access to e-books
- Doesn’t appear to be integrated with EBSCOnet
- There will be some discount for all 16 schools
- Vendor will make the Admin available to us to evaluate and identify a sample, should we wish
- Question? Should ERIC look at TDNet
- Action item: Betty Day will set a conference call with TDNet
Experiments in selective display of URLs in Find It menu (Wrubel)
- Laura passed out a draft explaining the SFX linking for a serial analytic that relies on the presence of the ISSN in the series statement of the bib
- Marlene reported she put ISSNs in series statements for Methods in enzymology analytics issues 2000-
- UMCP using 1 record for books, print & electronic in certain circumstances; Methods in enzymology is one
- Linda Seguin demonstrated a mock-up of an e-book record in TEST using 856 subfield 7 institutional code to support selective display of URLs in Find It menu
- It works with 1 subfield code and multiple campus codes; won’t work with separate subfield 7s for each institution, although separate 856s with subfield 7 might work
- Laura said using subfield 7, with campus 2 letter code following could prove more accurate than URL-matching for dealing with display of resources not in the SFX KB. Campus ownership can be indicated in the find It menu on an item by item basis, rather than by domain, as is the case for government documents and netLibrary e-books
- This functionality could prove more efficient for dealing with display of URLs in Find It for resources not in SFX KB, instead of adding the resource to SFX KB manually, as was done for gov doc URLs
- Marlene suggested that Linda encourage the catdb community to experiment with this new functionality in TEST
- Laura passed out a 2nd draft on Linking to E-Books in the Catalog through Find It
- Marlene suggested that this updated information would be valuable to share at the upcoming CPC Cataloging Training session on November 8 where Laura’s updated handout could be distributed
- Laura expressed willingness to repeat her SFX training at the CPC Cataloging Training session, if CPC wishes
