Meeting Minutes for User Interface Task Group
July 3, 2007

Topic 1: June Minutes
Minutes of the June 12th meeting were approved.

Topic 2: AV18 Update
Heidi showed the AV18 catalog My Account screens. Remaining screen changes include:

Heidi will be adding a notice to the catalog search and login pages on Monday, July 9th to let users know the catalog will be unavailable July 14-15. Seán gave the group an update on the STP timeline and will be sending a message out to Campus Contacts with details about the switchover and reporting any problems.

Topic 3: MetaLib 4.0
ITD will have MetaLib 4.0 installed sometime by mid-August, to be moved to production in January. UITG began discussing needs and priorities for the Research Port interface redesign.

UITG members shared web pages from other institutions with well-designed e-resource pages or helpful access features. For example:
index/database pages,
subject guides,
quick start pages,
online journals page, and
e-journals page.

Among the priorities for the MetaLib redesign, based on usability testing, are:

UITG discussed other ways to gather information about user needs, such as focus groups. To learn about faculty needs and experiences with Research Port, UITG members will interview faculty at their institutions using a standard set of interview questions (see wiki). Discussion of those interview responses will be put on the agenda for the August meeting. There may be other user data that UITG can collect and track in some way.

Topic 4: Membership
UITG submitted a renewal proposal to CLD at the beginning of July. The group members will need to set up staggered renewal terms. One member will be stepping off and the remaining five non-ITD members would like to return. Three need to renew for 1-year terms and two for 2-year terms. If members have a preference about their renewal term, they should let Laura know.

Agenda items: any remaining AV18 catalog screen issues, MetaLib 4 (discussion of interview results, process for redesign), review interface change requests.
