Meeting Minutes for August 19th, 2009

The group welcomed new member Maria Fernandez.

Topic 1:  Agenda review. Topic 4 was added to the agenda.

Topic 2:  SDI update.  (Heidi)
Heidi shared changes she has made so far to date to the SDI screens.  These include changes to column labels in the list of alerts, renaming SDI profile to “my catalog USMAI alerts”, and labels on the “create an alert” page. UITG provided suggestions for further refining some of the language and formatting of the screens.

Known problems and other issues to be resolved:

• “Delete alert” screen language problem
• Heidi will investigate whether it’s possible to add a button to the grey results bar which would link directly to the “create alert” page for that search.
• Processing to run alerts is slow. ITD is investigating how to speed up the processing.
• “No results” alert emails when there are in fact matching results.
• “On-Line Search” functionality not working properly.
• Adding a recent search to alerts when not yet signed in to the catalog prompts login but is going to the wrong login screen.

UITG Action items:

• Identify error messages that come up during testing and suggest new language. Heidi will mark on the wiki those error messages that are most likely to come up so UITG can focus on those.  Susan will help coordinate this work.
• Review email text. Heidi will set up an area in the wiki to track those suggestions. Mark will coordinate rewriting the text.
• Write a help file. Sean will start working on this and think about whether we need tips on any of the screens.
• Consider how this might be made available mid-semester. Could a “beta” label be added?
• Lay out a testing protocol for completing testing. On the wiki, start a list of functionality to be tested.

Topic 3:  Discussion of screen change for problematic language in PPH attempted at CP.  (see RX 4980)  (Heidi)
Heidi is working on a revised header for the screen to explain that users should select a volume to request. She will update the Rx with complete information as this is worked on.

Topic 4: CPC Proposal for suppression of URLs.
UITG reviewed the proposal and supports it. Susan will communicate back to Linda and CPC on behalf of UITG.

Topic 5: Round Robin
Sean:  E-Collections Coordinating Task Group update
The ECCTG is now working on the license tool. See the group’s minutes for a summary of the changes in the tool. http://usmai.umd.edu/ecctg/ecctg_007072009_min.html

Laura: Research Port service pack on Monday will resolve some minor bugs in the interface. No new functionality for UITG to investigate.

Heidi: Aleph service pack in test may resolve some bugs. Heidi will investigate and also let UITG know if anything in the OPAC is impacted in a major way.
