Count by Call Number Ranges is an item count report. The program, called report-callnums in ITD, reads thru the items and their associated BIB and HOLdings records, and the associated Circulation loan records. The Call number ranges used in the initial run of the report was the default list of ranges used for the CARL CNREP report. We have not used the specialized lists that existed in CARL at this time.
Count by Call Number Ranges report program utilizes data from Aleph Z13 (short bibliographic record), Z00 (HOL), Z30 (items), Z36 (loans) and Z36H (loans history). Z13 (short bibliographic record) contains up to six fixed (system defined) fields, including year, call no., author, title (up to 100 characters), imprint and issn-isbn. Z00 (HOL) includes information of HOL system number, sublibrary, collection, and call number. Z30 item records include information of an item's sub-library, collection, temporary location, call no., material type, item processing status, enumerations/chronologies, etc. Z36 includes active loan records whereas Z36H retains completed transactions.
Report Columns:Call number: either the first letter or the more specific ranges. The SUDOC numbers come at the end of the alphabet in each section.
Bibs: The bibliographic counts only appear in the more specific ranges of the report. There is a "-" when we could not provide a count of unique titles on the summary lines.
Hols: The holdings counted are those associated with an item. If there are holdings without items they were not counted.
Items: All items were counted except for those explicitly excluded by Item Processing status.Description: The last column of the report is description for the call number listed, e.g., AE = Encyclopedias, AG = General Reference Works, etc. The asterisk "*" in this column indicates no description available or an invalid range. This information comes from the default list of call number ranges.
Frequency: ITD will run the standard report monthly to provide up-to-date USMAI statistics, which can be retrieved from the Aleph report page on the Web. We will run the report on different days of the month for each institution. You can submit a request for a customized, ad hoc, report to satisfy your campus specific needs for data inclusion, exclusion, call number ranges or range of dates through the Aleph Web Request Form.
