USMAI Resource Sharing Task Group Minutes

April 6, 2006

Present: Stephen Miller, Carol Vaeth, Jean Philips, Robin Moskal, Beverly Gresehover, Jamie Bush, Tanner Wray

Discussion/demo of usability testing and Find IT - Laura Wrubel of ITD, Linda Seguin from UMBC, Cindy Todd from CP, and Janet Evander of ITD presented an overview of their work with the User Interface Task Group on usability testing of Find It.

Approval of March Minutes - Minutes approved, ILLiad timeline posted.

Circulation Subgroup applications and recommendation to CLD - Six applications received and discussed. Recommended that all applications be approved and our recommendation be sent to be considered by CLD Executive Committee on April 13. Committee members will be invited to attend May 12th RSTG meeting.

Circulation Subgroup initial meeting agenda - Agenda and meeting discussed and planned.

ILLiad consortial implementation - status report - ITD working on file sharing and networking issues that have been more complicated than anticipated. Secure file sharing is needed to provide access to ILLiad folders from local sites. Once resolved, installation and setup of ILLiad for SMCM will follow, date still to be determined. Discussed the timing and order of bringing campuses - process and priorities. Discussed promoting the use of Odyssey within the consortium.

USMAI Web Pages - Discussed using a Wiki for RSTG and had a brief demo. Discussed pros/cons, locking sites, ability of RSTG to edit but others to view only. Jean will set up test Wiki and add minutes and agenda for review. Jamie will review list of changes to RSTG website.

ILL agreements discussion at CLD 4/20 - Robin Moskal and Stephen Miller will attend as representatives of RSTG to answer any questions from CLD about the agreements.

Other issues:

May 18th - there will be a demo of Ereserves in Aleph after the CLD meeting
Aleph security update from Jean - Possible enhancements will allow for multiple ADM files in Aleph. "PDQ" will replace PDS functions - impacts not clear now. Will happen with version 19 of Aleph, consortium will need to review functionality and decide whether or not to use.
CP and ITD SSN project - to justify the use of SSN in USMAI systems, asked to pursue and investigate ways to reduce use of SSN. Aleph enhancements to be proposed, right now SSN is the only way to match patrons in global patron file, this is not a technical requirement for aleph so is a policy issue to be investigated and resolved.
UC ID Card - Stephen presented the new "patron-printed" ID card for UMUC that will be issued to students for summer 2006 and ongoing. Students will access UMUC's portal each semester and print their card on their own printer. It is acceptable to UC for the USMAI libraries to also ask for photo ID to verify the person's identity.
