Adding/Editing your HOL in Aleph version 16

Contributed by Beverly Geckle

As in 15 you can edit your HOLs in the Cataloging Module. Verson 16 has an option to edit patterns in Serials. However, it does not work properly for USMAI at this time. Also, do not use the Schedule or Patterns choices in the left pane in Serials.

To add an HOL:
  1. Choose the Subscription List (L) on the left pane.
  2. Highlight your subscription in the upper right pane.
  3. In the lower pane click on Tab 4, HOL links.
  4. On the right click NEW.
  5. This will create a new HOL and link the highlighted subscription to it.

After you have clicked NEW, click EDIT. You should add an OWN field and any pattern or summary holding information for the HOL.

To see and edit your pattern:
  1. Choose the Subscription List (L) on the left pane.
  2. Highlight your subscription in the upper right pane.
  3. In the lower pane click on Tab 4, HOL links.
  4. Your HOL should be highlighted and checked. Click the Edit button on the right in the lower pane.
  5. This will take you into the Cataloging module. You may wish to adjust the lower right pane so it takes up about half of the right screen.
  6. Once in cataloging you should be able to do editing as in 15.
  7. You can get "Help on Field" information by highlighting the field and then looking in the lower pane, Tab 2, Tag Information.
  8. You must have an OWN field in your HOL in order to save the HOL or save changes.
  9. If you have more than one HOL on a record you can click tab 4, HOL Records in the lower pane to edit your other HOLs or create a new one.
  10. New Feature: If you click on tab 3 and then go to the Cataloging menu at the top of the module and choose View in Web Opac, you can see your summary holding (866 field) as it will appear in the WebOpac. The same feature works for the Bibliographic record, if you are viewing it in the cataloging module.
